Rondal Gail (Ron) Castleberry was born on July 22, 1935, in Texola, Oklahoma, where his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Githens, lived. Ron was the beloved son of Goldia and Gail Castleberry and the cherished brother of Larry Castleberry.
After graduating from Dalhart High School in 1953, Ron began his career at JC Penny. His dedication and hard work led to a transfer to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Soon after, Ron married Carolynne Witherspoon and enlisted in the Army. As a helicopter crew chief, he was deployed to France, where he made 2 lifelong friends; one from Dallas and one from Fort Worth. This helped Ron to decide to settle in Arlington, upon his discharge.
In Arlington, Ron attended the University of Texas at Arlington long enough to be recognized and recommended to a recruiter who hired him immediately to start building the A7. He worked as a Flight Test Engineer at Ling Temco Vaught (LTV) in Grand Prairie. His career later took him to the High Speed Wind Tunnel, where he tested leading-edge aircraft prototypes.
Later, Ron and Carolynne's entrepreneurial spirit moved them to transform a historical home in Arlington into Castleberry Galleries, where Ron became a certified conservation picture framer. They continued to run the most highly respected art gallery and frame shop in Arlington for the next 30 years.
In addition to having his private pilot license, Ron continued to enjoy numerous hobbies including hunting, gunsmithing, woodworking, building and flying model airplanes, and blacksmithing.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Carolynne. He is survived by his brother, Larry; his sons, Mark and Scott; and his grandsons, Christopher and Aaron. Ron passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 9, 2025, at the age of 90.
Services for Ron will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 12 pm with visitation beginning at 11 AM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive Arlington, TX 76012. Burial will follow the service at Parkdale Cemetery.
