Thomas was born on Monday, December 7, 1931, in Ladonia, Texas, to Thomas Hardy Bearden Sr. and Hazel Jane Bearden. He was raised in Ladonia and attended Ladonia High School.

He was preceded in death by five siblings: Ervin, Alton, Weldon, Mildred, and Katherine.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife, Vida Bearden; daughter, Wendy (Rex) Pugh; son, Wendell (Angie) Bearden; grandsons, David Christie and Bailey Bearden; granddaughter, Jennifer Manns; great-granddaughter, Haley Manns; great-grandson, Payton Manns; and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Thomas Hardy Bearden Jr. will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
