Beloved husband, dad, grandfather, and friend, William Philip Allen III, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 30, 2026 at the age of 83. He and family were blessed to be together until his last breath.
Phil was born on February 5, 1942 in Houston, Texas. After having fun, raising hell, and giving a couple of universities’ officials a run for their money, Phil decided the United States Marine Corps offered a more meaningful path forward than the confines of a classroom. Phil served for over five years and earned his Associates degree while doing so.
In 1965, while working in the gas and oil industry in Houston, Texas, Phil met the love of his life, whom he married on November 13, 1965. He was a devoted husband to Eloise Walters Allen for 60 years, a dedicated father to his daughters and their husbands, Allison and Terry Webb, and Amy and Jamie Schroer, and a proud Granddaddy to his grandchildren, Travis Dowty, Jesse Schroer, Jack Dowty, Kylee Schroer, Kate Dowty, and great-grandchildren, Oliver and Madelyn Dowty. He was preceded in death by his precious wife, Eloise, and his parents, William Philip Allen Jr. and Elizabeth Easterwood Allen.
During his lifetime, Phil was the most steadfast and generous person in the family. As a caregiver to his wife for 8 years, Phil lived out his wedding vow commitment of in sickness and in health till death us do part. As her care requirements exceeded his capabilities, you would find him by her side in her memory care facility during his multiple visits each day.
As a well-cultured man, Phil had an appreciation for art, hunting, Mexican food, fine dining, riding motorcycles, working on his vehicles, traveling, and reading. He was also a self-taught financial guru who enjoyed spending much of his time managing investments for himself and his family. As an adventurous Granddaddy, he took his young grandsons on spelunking road trips where they survived on Big Red, Fritos, and bean dip.
Throughout his life, Jesus Christ was at the center of his heart. Phil lived out his commitment to the Lord serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, and usher. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. He felt a profound responsibility in teaching the security of salvation to his family and others. As his grandkids were growing, he would tell them, “I love you. Who else loves you? Jesus.” Once Eloise passed, Phil spent his days faithfully visiting and praying over friends, residents, and acquaintances at hospitals and other facilities.
While still of sound mind, Eloise provided a handwritten list describing how she saw Phil: committed, foundational, knowledgeable, respected, energetic, motivated, dependable, sincere, loyal, people person, solid, honest, and of integrity. The family could not have said it better.
In lieu of flowers, our family asks that you share a meal with a loved one and tell them you love them. If family is not local, please call them today.
