

William “Bill” Frank Caughran was born on March 5, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Ida “Lois” Smith Caughran and Elmer “Frank” Caughran, both of Terrell, Texas. Bill passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, at 75. He was preceded in death by both parents and his cherished wife, Billie Turner Caughran, of Dallas, TX.
Bill grew up in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1967. He then attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration. His graduation led to job opportunities in Houston, TX, where he worked first for Foley’s Department Store. A long and successful career at Houston Lighting and Power followed this.
Bill was a devoted father to his three children, whom he shared with his first wife, Susan Miller Caughran Cunningham, of Kemah, TX. He is survived by Amy Caughran Bourne-Hochderffer (Jerry) of Corvallis, Oregon, Ashley Caughran Capt (Emmett IV) of Bagwell, TX, and Jonathan “Colin” Caughran (Lisa Robinson Caughran) of Houston, TX.
Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily Bourne, Benjamin Bourne, Michael Ryan Bourne of Corvallis, Oregon, Emmett E Capt V, Howdy M Capt, Elizabeth M Capt, Bobbie Bess Capt, Remington J Capt, S Johnson “Johnny” Capt of Bagwell, TX, Colin P Caughran, Nolan T. Caughran of Houston, TX.
He is also survived by siblings-in-law Sue Turner & Les Freund of Dallas, TX.
His stepson David “Bubba” Wooldridge (Diane) of Dallas, TX, stepdaughter Billie Woods of Dallas, TX, and stepdaughter Brandi Wooldridge of Dallas, TX. He is survived by his step-grandchildren, Charles Wooldridge, Bragen Wooldridge, Brandi Nicole Jackson, and Savannah Williams of Dallas, TX, and was preceded in death by Cameron. He is survived by step-great-grandchildren Brixton, Poppy, Isaiah, and McKlain.
Bill was a devoted father to his children, creating lasting memories of family camping trips, being the entertaining and comic DJ at many Bear Creek swim meets, and always being there for his kids to repair a broken bike or bandage a skinned knee. His passion for Halloween was legendary, with elaborate decorations and homemade haunted houses that delighted and spooked neighbors and friends alike.
On July 7, 2007, Bill married Billie Wooldridge of Dallas, TX. They continued to live in Dallas enjoying his retirement years together. Bill embraced his role as a father to six and new role as proud grandfather and future great grandfather.
Bill will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to his family, and the joy he brought to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, stepchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Friday December 20th at 3:00 pm to honor his life and legacy at Moore Memorial Cemetery Arlington, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to a charity of their choice.
