

AUBURN – Bernard R. Adler, 84, of Auburn peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday April 23 at the Androscoggin Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Born in Youngstown, OH on December 10, 1930, a son of J. Lester and Rella Stecker Adler he attended local schools before graduating in 1948 He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 and proudly served his country for 9 years during the Korean War receiving the Bronze Star of Valor. After his service he began working as a shipping and receiving clerk for various companies before he retired in 1985. Ben married the love of his life Mariette Custeau on March 3, 1952 and together they raised their 3 boys. Ben always loved his country and was a member of American Legion Post 153. Ben loved to spend time with his family whether it was fishing with his boys, camping at Winslow Park (his favorite) or other sites, watching the Patriots play, or traveling with his 5th wheel to visit the country he always received great joy being with family. He always had sparkling vehicles as he could be frequently found washing and waxing them. One of his later pastimes was wood working creating several pieces that could be seen around his home. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mariette (Custeau) Adler; his 3 boys Michael and his wife Bonny Adler of Auburn, Gary and his wife Linda Adler of Florida, and David and his wife Christine Adler of Lewiston; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 nieces; and a nephew. Visitation Fortin Auburn Monday April 27th 2 – 4 & 6 – 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 28th 9am at Sacred Heart Church 8 Sacred Heart Place, Auburn. Committal service will follow with Military Honors at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta at 12pm.
