Calvin L. Hunter died at home with his family by his side on June 27, 2025. Calvin grew up in Auburn and was the youngest son of Ralph & Inez Shailer Hunter. He graduated from Edward Little High School and joined the navy soon after. He spent 4 years on The USS Gatling and USS Hull as a Machinist Mate 1st class and upon his discharge from the Navy, joined the Army Reserves 619th Transportation Unit where he retired from when he aged out. In June 1960 he married Judith Bean, and they were married for 65 years.
He joined the Auburn Maine police department in 1966 and served 14 years before leaving in 1980 to start his own construction company which he ran for 38 years and then proudly sold to his Grandson Travis. He continued to "play" in the pit, as he called it, for several more years.
Calvin is survived by his wife Judy, and dog Hunter, his children Debi, husband David, Scott and husband Chad, niece Lynn Hamlin, nephew Billy Hunter and wife Katy, grandchildren, Travis, Danielle, Jason and Allie and great grandchildren Paisley, Emerson, Cole, Lincoln, Ethan & Jakob and many other nieces and nephews.
Calvin was predeceased by his parents, Ralph & Inez Hunter, siblings, Helen Fifield & husband Lester, William Hunter & wife Lois (Tootie), grandson David Stearns and nephew Robbie Butters.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday July 9 at 2:00PM at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn. Arrangements by The Fortin & Pinette Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn.
