Dorothy M. Dunn, lovingly known as Dot or Dotti, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 6:05 a.m., at the age of 75, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her cherished family at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, Maine.
Dorothy was born on September 29, 1949, in Lewiston, Maine, to loving parents Edwin E. Allen and Phyllis M. Yokell (Allen). Her life was a tapestry of love, service, and adventure that touched all who knew her.
Dorothy was a dedicated professional with a compassionate heart, exploring various career paths that enriched her life and those around her. She spent a small time with the United States Marine Corps recruiting office before finding her niche as a secretary at Androscoggin News in Lewiston. Beyond her professional endeavors, Dorothy's true calling lay in nurturing others, a passion she joyfully expressed at a daycare center in Topsham, Maine. Her commitment to advocacy was evident through her enthusiastic support for Special Needs and her active involvement in the Special Olympics, working side by side with her beloved son, Todd.
Dorothy’s heart overflowed with love for her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Whether coasting the vast ocean on their yacht “NorthStar” or indulging in camping adventures and lobster dinners at Loon Mountain, family was always at the center of her world. Summers on Mosher Island were spent with family that were filled with laughter and endless lobster feasts. Beyond her love for adventure, Dorothy and Tom shared a unique hobby of beekeeping, which helped soothe her arthritis and brought immense joy to their lives. A devout Catholic, Dorothy found peace in saying the rosary and attending weekly Mass at the Prince of Peace Parish in Lewiston.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Thomas L. Dunn, of Monmouth, ME, and her loving daughter, Wendy M. Clow, of Boscawen, NH. In cherished memory, she was predeceased by her sister Sharon Burgess and son Peter. She leaves behind her beloved siblings, Linda Hallatt, Ann Logan, Peter Allen, and Edna Thomas of Wales, ME. Dorothy's legacy of love continues through her three treasured grandchildren, Elizabeth Clow, Natalia Belanger, and Desiree Belanger, as well as her two precious great-grandchildren, Finley Shea Allen Miller, and Aurora Ann Miller. Her heart also held a special place for her Godson, Caden Middleton, and his siblings, Samantha Wysong and Kacie Brightwell. Many extended family members and friends, who dearly loved her, will forever keep her spirit alive in their hearts.
