

AUBURN – Joan Elaine (Carver) Lyons, 84, of Schooner Estates, Auburn, ME, passed away peacefully at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, in Auburn on Thursday January 28th, 2016. She was born in Auburn on June 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Elwood and Fleeta (Smith) Carver. Joan grew up in North Auburn surrounded by extended family. She attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1951.Joan married the love of her life, Paul M. Lyons, in 1955 and they settled in Danville, ME to raise their family.Joan worked for the Maine Department of Human Services for 25 years and retired in 1996. She enjoyed traveling-her favorite destinations being Hawaii, Ireland, The Grand Canyon, New Orleans for Mardi Gras, and the beaches of Florida. She also loved making crafts, shopping, bringing joy to many people with her sister as clowns, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan is survived by , one son, Thomas Lyons of Sabattus; four daughters, Paula Lyons-Myrick and her husband Jerry of Minot, Benita Davis of Lewiston, Julie Sheloske and her husband David of Turner, and Lisa Rogers of Shelton, CT; She is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Vye and her husband Richard of Auburn, Judy Boothby and her husband Ted of Turner, Margaret Hodge and Dorothy Hanson, of Englewood Florida; her brother, John Carver Sr. and his wife Laura of Turner; her sister-in-law, Patricia Castner and her husband Larry of Minot, Sister in Law’s Edie Lyons of Danville, and Elizabeth Mayeux of Louisiana; brother in law, Edward Lyons Sr. of Oxford; her grandchildren, Nicole Davis of Lewiston, Lyndsey Davis of Lisbon, Christopher Davis of Lewiston, Michael Myrick of Lewiston, Charles J. Rogers of west Haven, CT, Candice Rogers of Shelton, CT, Beckie Sheloske of Montpelier, VT, Shawn Lyons of Limerick, ME, Sara Lyons of Orono; her great-grandchildren, Bentley Bosse, Brycen O’Connell, Vera Rose Figula, Spencer Russell, and twins Elsie and Chandler Myrick.Joan is predeceased by her husband, Paul, who died in 1976; her brothers, Roger Carver, and David Carver; her sister Norma Hoy; a grandson, Paul Davis, brother-in-law’s; John Hodge, William Hanson, George Lyons, Bill Lyons, John Lyons and James Hoy as well as sisters-in-law Anna Langlois and Joyce Carver. The family wishes to thanks the staff at Schooner Estates for helping to make the last years of her life enjoyable, as well as the staff and volunteers at AHHS Hospice House for making the final days of her life comfortable and peaceful. Visitation Fortin Auburn Sunday February 7 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 8 at 11 AM at St Philips Church in Auburn. Committal will be held in the spring at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
