Sandusky, OH - Joseph Robert “Bob” Sevit, 57, died August ¬¬¬21st, after a short battle with ALS, surrounded by family. He was born in Detroit, MI on December 26, 1957 to Richard and Theresa (Custeau) Sevit. Bob was the middle of three children. He attended local schools before graduating from Edward Little High School in 1976. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served active duty from 1976-1980. He served as a maintenance technician in HC-6 Chargers unit and worked on CH-46 Chinook helicopters. Once he left the Navy, he went to work for Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines as a maintenance manager, as well as National Airlines as a maintenance inspector. In 2014 he finally moved on to work for the FAA which was the pinnacle of his aviation career. He had one son, Kelin, who was his pride and joy. In 1996 Bob met the love of his life, Debra, and finally married her on August 17, 2015. Bob was an avid sports fan cheering on all the Detroit sports teams and the University of Michigan. He also loved airplanes, aviation, collecting sports cards and hockey memorabilia with his son. He is survived by his wife Debra Sevit of Ohio; his son Kelin Sevit of Georgia, stepchildren Carly Schlotterer of Michigan and Ben Schlotterer of Ohio; his sister Tina and her husband Peter Higgins of Portland; his brother Brian and his wife Vivian Sevit of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Bob had requested that after the Mass of Christian Burial a balloon release be conducted. He wanted to have paper airplanes attached to the balloons and released into the air as he had been in the airline business. We would like to ask that anyone interested in joining in the balloon release please make a paper airplane and feel free to write a message on it. Bring it with you and a balloon will be provided to you.
