Rita, as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Augusta, Maine, February 9, 1934. She grew up in Augusta and graduated from Coney high school.
She married Leo Lalemand on August 9, 1954. They had four children, Sandra, Shari-Ann, Hank and Brian. They spent many summers camping and spending time outdoors. She was very involved in her children’s lives, supporting their interests and sports activities. She also taught all of them to ski at a very early age at Sunday River.
She was a devout Catholic and was ordained a Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Church. She raised all of her children Catholic and taught them about Jesus and his teachings.
She spent many years making cakes professionally from a truck for a child’s birthday to elaborate multitiered wedding cakes. She was a talented artist and spent many years painting and making just about any craft.
She was not one to be still for very long and after she stopped, making all those cakes she got her CNA in home health.
As her children grew into adults, she continued being very involved in their lives, helping with childcare for her grandchildren, she would take her grandchildren on trips in their motorhome to Florida. She had a wonderful relationship with each of her 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and she treated her nieces and nephews as if they were as well her children.
She had a green thumb and loved flowers and worked in her gardens from spring until fall. One of her favorite places to go was the botanical gardens and just admire all the flowers. Another favorite Tabers for their onion rings and Dairy Queen for their blizzards. It was so easy to make her happy.
She is predeceased by her parents, Armand and Rose Demers and her younger sister Joyce Gagne, who she adored.
She is survived by her four children, Sandra Godin and her husband Ray from Eustis Maine, Shari-Ann Boyce Campbell from Auburn, Leo, Hank Lalemand and his wife Ricki Lynn from Waynesville North Carolina , Brian Lalemand and his wife Tammy from Minot, her 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
