Marion E. Hughes

Lewiston - Marion Cutter Hughes, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 8, at Marshwood Nursing Home.

Marion was born on May 8, 1917 in Waltham, MA to Orville and Myrtle (Mullen) Nickerson. She graduated from Waltham High School in 1935. After graduation, she worked in the office at Waltham Watch Co.

On July 21, 1938 she married Howell G Cutter. They moved to Auburn, ME, where they raised their five children. Howell passed away two months short of their 50th anniversary.

When her children were grown, Marion worked for awhile in the offices of J H Gillen Co., Auburn Water and Sewerage District, and Northern Refractories. She was a member of the High Street Congregational Church, where she was in charge of the Christmas Fair for several years.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening and her African Violets. On many occasions, her children and grandchildren would be wearing a sweater that Nana had made.

On July 1, 1995 she married Albert W Hughes. They enjoyed some traveling together until his passing in 2006. She is also predeceased by a son, Peter Cutter.

Surviving are her sons, David and wife Kathryn of Auburn, Paul and wife Janet of Turner, Michael and wife Paula of Kennebunk, and daughter Sandra and husband John Shaw of Camden; stepsons Nick Hughes and wife Janice of Georgia and Stephen Hughes of New York; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren.
