Michael P McAllister, 66, of West Poland, ME passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a long illness. Mike was born at Limestone AFB in Limestone, ME on March 15, 1956, the son of Lawrence E. McAllister and Jean V. (Pierce) McAllister.
Mike was a voracious reader and had a vast library of books. He shared his love of books with his family and friends. His exceptional knowledge of music and its many genres was beyond compare. He loved and lived music his entire life and could tell you about any band or artist, how many records they released and what their names were and would do it with excitement. His friends, siblings, nieces, nephews and his children all learned about music and discovered many artists from him. He was actively involved in his son’s musical career and bands and was at every show with his camera .
Mike was a quiet renaissance man who was also a gifted photographer whose photographs have been displayed at many galleries in Maine and Saint Petersburg, Russia and has many local collectors of his work. He was an avid backpacker and hiker and had 15 years of adventures in the mountains around the country hiking and taking pictures.
Mike grew up in Lowell and Chelmsford, MA and graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1974. He attended Lowell Tech and Northeastern University in Boston. He owned and operated NEMED, Inc a biomedical equipment service company in Scarborough, ME for 36 years retiring in 2017 due to illness.
Mike is survived by his children Toby McAllister, wife Leslie and granddaughter Adeline of Mechanic Falls, ME, his daughter Robin Lovelette, husband Michael and grandson Logan of West Poland, ME, brothers Dan McAllister of Waterboro, ME and Andrew McAllister and wife Ceceil of Arundel, ME, Linda Chaisson, close friend and mother of his children of West Poland, ME, his closest and dearest friend Robert Doyle of Poland, ME, his significant other Kim Lessard of Elliot, ME, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog and companion Rosie. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Ahearn of Farmington, NH and his parents.
Visitation is at Fortin Group, 217 Turner Street in Auburn, ME on Saturday, March 11 from 11 am to 1 pm followed by a gathering and celebration of Mike’s life at Gritty’s at 68 Main Street in Auburn at 1:30 pm.
