

Auburn - Ramona (Mona) G. Gross, of Auburn, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Odd Fellows Home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lewiston, February 25, 1928 daughter of James and Beatrice Abbott. Ramona graduated from St. Patrick's School and from Edward Little High School in 1946. She married the late Burton (Bud) G. Gross on August 24, 1946 and spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother to their four children, Cynthia, Joyce, Stephen and Becky. Ramona moved to Fort Belvoir, VA in 1955 when Bud joined the Army. She lived in many places in the U.S. during their military life, including Fairbanks, Alaska from 1964 to 1967. Ramona's husband retired from the Army in 1973 and they bought a home in Lisbon, Maine. Mona worked at Willie's Restaurant and The Channel Marker Restaurant. Upon the death of her husband in 1984, Mona moved to Auburn and worked for many years at the Dunkin Donuts on Center Street. Mona retired in 1989 because of illness and moved into the Roak Block on Main Street, where she resided until moving to the Odd Fellows Home in February 2002. Mona is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Brown and husband Leonard of Tamarac, Florida, Joyce Rains of Lowell,Mass. and Rebecca Gross of Auburn and her two beloved sisters, Patty Smith and Kay Bernard both of Auburn; 7 grandchildren, including 5 granddaughters, Vanessa Hildebrand of Juneau, Alaska, Angela Bidoudane of Lynn, Mass., Sarah McAdams of Derry, N.H., Emily Laganas of Lowell, Mass. and Alayna Gross of Auburn and two grandsons, Donald Durgan of Portland, Oregon and Alex Brown of Tamarac, Florida; 10 great grandchildren, Giovanni Gross, Julian Favreau, Omar, Zach and Sophia Bidoudane, Jacob McAdams and Crystal Laganas, Alexis, Roxie, Stephan Hilderbrand. Ramona will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother who enjoyed life and especially for her love of sewing and the ocean.
