

AUBURN- Richard S McFadden Sr., 89, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 2, 1926, a son of the late Charles and Katherine Graham McFadden. He attended schools in Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School. Mr. McFadden married the love of his life Carolyn Hadakin on April 2, 1949. He served 6 years of active duty during World War II and the Korean conflict and 4 years in the Naval reserve. He was discharged with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. In 1946 he became a member of the Auburn Fire Department until his recall to active duty. Upon his return from active duty, he began his career with Seltzer and Rydholm. He served as manager of the Portland plant living in Cumberland Center for 13 years and was then transferred to the Auburn plant after being promoted to Vice President and General Manager until his retirement in 1988. Mr. McFadden served 3 terms as President of the Maine Bottlers Carbonated Beverages, 15 years as a director of Mid Maine Mutual Savings Bank, life member of the New Auburn Legion Post 153, the Grandstand Club, the coffee club, a member of Tranquil Lodge #29 Auburn, the Lewiston Lodge of Perfection, Androscoggin County Shrine Club, Princess of Jerusalem Scottish Rite Consistory, and H. H. Dickey Chapter of Rose Croix and Kora Temple, a 30 year member of Fairlawn Country Club, and a member of the United Methodist Church in Auburn where he taught Sunday School for a time and the Congregational Church in Cumberland Center. Richard enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his wife and spending holidays with his late brother Bill when all the family would gather together. He spent many wonderful hours fishing off Cundy’s Harbor with his late brother Warren. Richard and his sister Viola spent much time on the phone “just checking in”. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, three sons, Thomas and his wife Ann, Richard Jr. and his wife Janice, James, and daughter Carole Anne; 4 grandchildren, Scott, Thomas Jr., Toby and Debbi, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs Katie and Wilson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Androscoggin Humane Society, 35 Strawberry Ave. Lewiston, ME 04240. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 8, at the United Methodist Church located at 439 Park Ave. in Auburn from 11-1pm. Funeral Service will follow at the United Methodist Church at 1pm. Burial will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery on Auburn Ave.
