AUBURN - Ruth Avis (Sedgeley) Driscoll, 95, died on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Clover Manor in Auburn. She was born in Lewiston on January 6, 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Methyl (Drake) Sedgeley.
A 1942 graduate of Lewiston High School, she was also a graduate of the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. In 1944, Ruth moved to Hobbs New Mexico during WWII to marry John T. Driscoll of New Auburn who was training pilots after returning from his completed missions in the European Theater. During their 52 years of marriage, they had 7 children, and raised their family in Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, returning home to Maine in 1974. Ruth’s heart was always in Maine where the family has spent summers at Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester since 1952.
Ruth and John travelled throughout the United States, Canada and Europe during their retirement years.
Over her lifetime, Ruth embraced her large extended family, friends and neighbors. There was always an extra seat at the table for anyone wanting lasagna or a cup of Taster’s Choice Instant Coffee. The cookie jar was always filled with Toll House cookies or whoopee pies. Her life was about caring for others.
Ruth is survived by her children: Jo-Ann Driscoll (daughter-in-law), Elaine Becker, Rev. Susan Nolan (Tom Woithe), Thomas Driscoll (Katherine), Catherine Gregory (Alan), Nancy Gilbert (Greg), and Patricia Morris (John); her sister-in-law, Rosalie Hames; her 14 grandchildren, David Becker, Karen Frohlich, Amy Becker, Jonathan Nolan, James Nolan, Rebecca Clark, Timothy Gregory, John Driscoll, Sarah Waters, Jessica Smith, Melissa Legare, Daniel Bernier, Christopher Morris and Deanna Morris; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
