Loann Arris Robinson passed away in Layton, Utah on Thursday, May 9, 2019, two days after her 92nd birthday. Loann was born in Danville, Maine on May 7, 1927 to Harold and Lois Arris. Her birth marked the first of the fourth generation of the Arris family to reside in the historic family home in Danville. On New Years Day, 1948, she married F. Edward Robinson of Farmington, ME in that same family home. In subsequent years, she lived in Maine, Washington, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Utah. Loann graduated from Edward Little High School in 1944. In 1947, she graduated from Maine State Teachers College with a three-year teaching certificate. In her 50’s, she decided to return to school to complete her fourth year for her bachelor’s degree. She earned a 4.0 with an emphasis in special education. This education prepared her well for a career in teaching. Her first teaching job was in a one room schoolhouse where she taught first through sixth grade. Through the years she taught in many different schools, settings (including teaching homebound students) and in all age groups. Her love of working with young people led her to work as an Executive for the Campfire Girls.
Though she enjoyed teaching, she was completely devoted to her husband, five children and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with each of her family members and attending their many concerts, plays and graduations.
She had a love of all music, especially classical. She played the piano, organ and tympani. Loann sang with the Singing Mothers at the World’s Fair in New York City in 1964 and later was a longtime member of the Jefferson Chorus in Jefferson, NH.
Her faith in and devotion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints guided her life. She held many positions for the church throughout her life, including organist, Young Women President, seminary teacher, Relief Society president, genealogy worker and temple worker.
Loann is survived by her five children, Kristen (Michelle) of Louisiana, Darlene (Scott) of Utah, Scott (Elizabeth) of New Hampshire, Dane of Nevada and Shelby (Yvonne) of Washington, ten grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, F. Edward Robinson, parents Harold and Lois Arris, brother Wayne Arris and great grandson, Matthew Thorne.
There will be visiting hours at the Fortin Group Funeral Home at 217 Turner Street in Auburn from 6PM to 8PM on Friday June 7. The following morning, Saturday, June 8, there will be a graveside service at the Pine St. Cemetery in Auburn at 11am. The closest address to the cemetery access is 101 Old Danville Road, diagonally across the intersection of Old Danville Road and Hackett Road, Auburn, Maine. Following the cemetery service, there will be a reception at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 545 Maple Hill Road, Auburn, Maine 04210.
