Alfonso emigrated, first to Mexico, then to the USA, when he was 26 and was joined by his wife and three children 3 years later. Three more children were born to the couple, and they raised their six children in New York in both Yonkers and the Bronx. Due to the strong conservative values espoused by Alfonso and Lidia all six children thrived and went on to complete university and post-graduate degrees. Alfonso was a family man who enjoyed all eleven of his grandchildren and doted on them. For many years he traveled the U.S. from east coast to Mexico, to west coast to visit his children and grandchildren. As the patriarch of the family he felt strongly that being surrounded by family was his greatest blessing. Alfonso was an avid student of the Holy Bible, followed professional sports and had a curiosity about the natural world. He was a proud American and a disciple of Christ. Alfonso was preceded in death by his wife: Lidia Luna de Madrid; mother and brother, Manuela Madrid Amaya and William Gomez.
He is survived by his children Smyrna Madrid Bailey, Dina Madrid, Gabriel Madrid and his wife Martha, Daniel Madrid and his wife Hildet, Martha Madrid Kleeman, and Ruth Madrid Comley and her husband Mike. Alfonso leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
His entire family will miss him dearly and his memory will live on in our hearts until we meet again at the coming of Jesus, our Lord, and Savior.
A small gathering will take place at his daughter’s house in Bakersfield to celebrate his life on Friday, February 9, 2024.
