Barbara Louise Shearer

Barbara was born in Wasco, California to Mildred and Forrest Roth in a small wooden house off 7th Street. She attended Wasco Elementary and Standard School. She graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1947, and later attended Bakersfield College.

Barbara married James Shearer in 1953. Mom was blessed with three children, Gail Aleen Thompson, Douglas Clinton Shearer, and Dennis Walter Shearer. Mom loved working in her yard, also sewing and cooking for her family. Mom enjoyed vacations to Washington with her husband, children, and grandchildren, fishing, camping, and creating unforgettable memories, and long talks about life. No matter what, she was there for her family, teaching, caring, providing, patient, and kind. Every Christmas was special, a birthday never forgotten. Her love and beautiful smile will be greatly missed.

Mom stayed home for 13 years raising her children before returning back to work to Kern Medical Center for 12 years, and then worked at the Kern County Sheriff’s Department for 35 years, retiring at age 67.

Barbara leaves behind her daughter Gail Thompson and son Douglas Shearer; grandchildren Audra Louise Shearer, Leslie Shearer, Daniel Thompson, Adam Goss and Christa Strickland; great-grandchildren Ashlynn Gardner, Alyssa Murphy, Seth Lay, Sarah Louise Lay, Tyler Puckett, Trevor Ary, Shayne Ary, Holden Ary, Chad Ary and Arya Strickland; great-great-grandchildren Peytan Gardner, Landyn Gardner, Camdyn Gardner and Lilly Murphy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Forrest Roth, husband James Clinton Shearer, and son Dennis Shearer.
