Bertha Sandoval

El miércoles 3 de enero de 2024, Bertha Sandoval, amada esposa, madre de tres hijos y abuela de ocho, falleció a la edad de 67 años a causa de la enfermedad de Alzheimer en su casa rodeada de toda su amada familia en Buttonwillow, CA.

Bertha, también conocida como “Tita”, nació el 6 de abril de 1956 en El Tamarindo, Departamento de Chaletenango, El Salvador, hija de Modesto y Julia (Rivas) Ortiz. Tita conoció a su esposo Gonzalo en 1974 mientras Gonzalo vendía muebles puerta a puerta. Gonzalo quedó fascinado por Tita y regresó a casa de sus padres para solicitar el noviazgo. Después de algunos meses de noviazgo, se casaron y un año después formaron su familia. Tita llegó a Estados Unidos en 1977 con la idea de ahorrar dinero para brindarle un mejor futuro a su familia y regresar a casa lo antes posible, pero cuando empezo la Guerra Civil Salvadoreña en 1979, los planes cambiaron. Gonzalo y Tita trajeron a sus dos hijos mayores a los Estados Unidos y poco después nació su hijo menor. Gonzalo y Tita criaron a sus tres hijos, Olgar, Roxanne y Roani en Buttonwillow, Ca. Tita trabajó en el restaurante Country Kettle como lavaplatos y pronto se convirtió en mesera. Mientras todavía trabajaba como mesera, en su tiempo libre, vendía ropa y artículos para el hogar desde la camioneta familiar y recorría los ranchos locales donde vivían todos los trabajadores agrícolas para proporcionar productos. Este fue uno de sus mayores logros porque finalmente era su propia jefa. Tita’s Pupuseria lleva 24 años en el negocio y sigue funcionando. Tita no sólo era trabajadora, sino que también era cariñosa, generosa y una amiga genuina para muchos. Ha tocado muchos corazones y no solo su familia sino también muchos en la comunidad de Buttonwillow la extrañarán mucho.

A Tita le precedieron en la muerte su padre, Modesto, su madre, Julia, su hermana, Victoria Castro, sus hermanos, Pablo, Beto y Julián Ortiz. Le sobreviven su esposo, Gonzalo, sus tres hijos, Olgar Sandoval, Roxanne Buenrostro (Steve) y Roani Sandoval (Enrique), sus nietos, Jordan, Julian, Victor, sus nietas, Makayla, Makenzie, Janelle, Jocelynn, Valentina. , su hermana Ester Fuentes, sus hermanos Felipe, Abel, Rubén, Jeremías, Francisco, Antonio y varios primos, sobrinas y sobrinos.

On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Bertha Sandoval, loving wife, mother of three, and grandmother to eight, passed away at the age of 67 from Alzheimer’s disease at her home surrounded by all her loving family in Buttonwillow, CA. Bertha, also known as “Tita,” was born on April 6, 1956, in El Tamarindo, Departamento de Chaletenango, El Salvador to Modesto and Julia (Rivas) Ortiz. Tita met her husband Gonzalo in 1974 while Gonzalo was selling furniture door to door. Gonzalo was mesmerized by Tita and he returned to her parents’ home to request courtship. After some months of dating, they married and a year later they started their family. Tita came to the United States in 1977 with the notion to save money to provide a better future for her family and return home as soon as possible, but when the Salvadoran Civil War broke out in 1979, plans were changed. Gonzalo and Tita brought their two older children to the states and soon after their youngest child was born. Gonzalo and Tita raised their three children, Olgar, Roxanne and Roani in Buttonwillow, Ca. Tita worked at Country Kettle Restaurant as a dishwasher and soon became a waitress. While still working as a waitress, she was an entrepreneur, ahead of her times. In her spare time, she would sell clothes and household items from the family mobile van and go around to the local ranches where all farm workers lived to provide goods. Soon after she opened Roxanne’s Clothing in Buttonwillow and Wasco, CA. When she saw an opportunity for business, she was quick to work. In 1999, Tita quit her job as a waitress and decided she would open her own restaurant. This was one of her greatest accomplishments because she was finally her own boss. Tita’s Pupuseria has been in business for 24 years and is still running. Tita not only was hard working but was caring, loving, and a genuine friend to many. She has touched so many hearts and she will be greatly missed by not only her family but many in the community of Buttonwillow.

Tita was preceded in death by her father, Modesto, mother, Julia, sister, Victoria Castro, brothers, Pablo, Beto, and Julian Ortiz.

She is survived by her husband, Gonzalo, her three children, Olgar Sandoval, Roxanne Buenrostro (Steve), and Roani Sandoval (Enrique), her grandsons, Jordan, Julian, Victor, her granddaughters, Makayla, Makenzie, Janelle, Jocelynn, Valentina, her sister Ester Fuentes, her brothers Felipe, Abel, Ruben, Jeremiah, Francisco, Antonio, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
