

Clovis Charles Hunt, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 12,2024. He was born October 8,1935 in Childress,Texas, the 5th of 8 children to Tressie Mae Maxey and Marvin Alton Hunt. As a child, his family were products of the dust bowl and in 1943 they moved to Kern County. Clovis attended East Bakersfield High School. He was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served in Korea during the Korean War where he was awarded a medal for good conduct. Clovis met the love of his life, Carolyn Orman on a blind date and they were soon married on June 5th, 1960 in Las Vegas, NV. He was a manager at Thriftimart for 26 years and later supplemented his retirement by becoming a handyman. The couple was blessed with four children together, Craig Charles, Clay Marvin, Christopher Joe and Chad Alton. Clovis was very involved in his community and coached many of his sons baseball teams and became a regular volunteer at Fairfax Baseball Club.
He was a true jack of all trades, someone who could fix or build anything and excelled in every task he took on. He ventured into real estate with multiple property investments. His resourcefulness, kind nature, and tireless work ethic left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Above all, he was the most proud of his four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Clovis was known as “Pa” to his twelve grandchildren: Joanna, Shanna, Rebecca, David, Clay Jr, Jennifer, Kiefer, Wade, Catherine, Colton, Madeline and Cy and thirteen great grandchildren: Joseph, Luca, Jordan, Jadynn, Nicholas, Rowan, Remy, Meadow, Daisy, Waylon, Rhys, Walker and Rowdy.
Clovis is survived by his children, Craig, Clay, Chris (Teresa) and Chad, his sisters Shelly Laverne Ferguson and Gracie Bradshaw, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tressie and Marvin Hunt, his wife Carolyn Hunt, his siblings Maxine, Alton, and Billy Hunt, Glenna Moseley and Mary Lou Williams.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 26,2024 at Legacy Christian Church 724 Niles Street at 9am followed by graveside service with Military Honors at Hillcrest Memorial Park 9101 Kern Canyon Rd. at 11:30am. Flowers can be sent the day prior to the ceremony to Hillcrest Memorial Park.
A celebration of his life will follow, with lunch provided. If you'd like, feel free to bring a side dish or dessert to share as we gather to honor his memory.
