They moved between Texas and California several times before settling in Bakersfield in 1946. In his younger years he was a tailor and owned a car lot. He became a barber and owned several barbershops during his years in Bakersfield. He retired in 1978.
Ewell was a long time member and Deacon of Central Church of Christ in Bakersfield and a member of the Church of Christ in Mt. Mesa for the last 4 years.
In 2011 Ewell moved to Wofford Heights to live with his son Edwin Carter and daughter-in-law Janell.
He is also survived by his daughter Dolores McKenna of Lahaina, HI., a brother Robert Becknal of Portland, OR., grandchildren Lenore Davis, Ellen Lennon, Bridget and husband Scott Asire, Neil and wife Joann Carter, Dayleen and husband Tom Loeb and 4 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Dude and grandson Ed Carter.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, February 27th at Hillcrest Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd.; Services at 11:00 a.m., Satuarday, February 28th at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. A celebration of Ewell's life will be held at Central Church of Christ, 425 South H St. following the service.
