George Wayne Cobb

George Wayne Cobb passed away in San Luis Obispo, CA on November 29, 2025 at the age of 91. He was born in Yuba City, CA in 1934 to John and Nina Cobb and joined siblings Buster, Zora, Opal, Jonnie, and Ty to complete their family. In his youth, his family moved from Yuba City to Bakersfield, CA where he attended grammar school and graduated from Bakersfield High School. He went on to attend Bakersfield College, Fresno State University and earned his Ed.D. from USC. George retired as an Administrator with the Kern High School District after 34 years. Among many of the hats he wore at the KHSD, he was most notably known for overseeing the Regional Occupation Center which provides valuable trade skills to the students in the district.

His marriage to Sharon Cobb produced two sons, Darren and Brandon. George was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. Later, George married Joyce Cobb and they were married for 34 years. Together, George and Joyce enjoyed many years traveling the world and serving their community. George was an active member of the East Bakersfield Lion’s Club serving in many capacities. George would often been seen tinkering with his 1957 Chevy truck or driving in a local parade with his 1925 Chrysler Sedan.

George proudly served in the United States Army and recently went on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. He talked fondly of this experience and was grateful to share it with his son, Brandon. George will be remembered for his love of family and his wonderful sense of humor. He would never pass up the opportunity to tell a joke or two. George took loving care of his wife and he adored his children and grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Joyce Cobb; son, Brandon Cobb and his wife, Shelby; grandchildren, Vanessa, Darren, and Ryder; Joyce’s children and grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Darren, parents, and siblings. Services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Hillcrest Mortuary and Cemetery, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
