

Jerry Lee Morris was born July 5th, 1943 in Ennis,Texas the youngest child of William and Irene Morris. The family moved to Bakersfield when Jerry was young and he attended Aztec School and graduated from North High School in 1961. After high school Jerry enlisted in the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Chemung and stayed on it for a year and 9 months until it went dry dock for repairs at which time Jerry became a part of the Naval Reserve.
Once he finished his service in the Naval Reserves, Jerry went to work for Union Oil Tide Water. Over the years the company changed names and owners from Union Oil/Tide Water to Getty Oil to Texaco and then to Chevron. Jerry stayed working through all the changes and retired from Chevron in April of 2005. After a year of retirement Jerry went back to work for Brown’s Backhoe Service and stayed with them until his second retirement in August 2015.
Jerry went with his brother Bill one day in January of 1965 to see about some car parts for sale in a newspaper ad and there he met the love of his life, Doretha aka Dottie. They were married in June and had been married for 56 & 1/2 years at the time of his passing. They had two children, daughter Sheri followed by a son, Terry and their family was complete.
Jerry was a man of so many talents, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do and everything he did, was done with love and perfection. He made buckskin clothing for his family, built muzzle rifles, cooked, baked and a multitude of other things over the years that brought not only happiness to him but to all those who benefited from his labors of love. Jerry loved to spend time with his family and never missed a get together if he could help it because nothing meant more to him than they did. He also enjoyed going to Rendezvous Shoots with his muzzleloaders. Jerry was an exceptionally good cook and at holidays everyone looked forward to his homemade fudge, peanut brittle and especially his banana pudding. Later in life he took up baking and decorating cakes. Jerry took pride in his cakes which he entered in the Kern County Fair over the years, along with his other tasty treats and won many awards including several blue ribbons. The cake Jerry took the most pride in was the wedding cake he made for his granddaughter Lindsey. Jerry also baked goodies to put in the baskets for seniors at the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church of which he and Dottie were members.
Jerry had a long struggle with the disease of Alzheimer’s and fought as hard as he could until God provided him rest from his battle on January 14th.
Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents William and Irene Morris, sister Jo Knighten, Bill Morris and Bob Morris.
This he leaves to cherish his memory are his wife, Doretha(Dottie), daughter Sheri David(Vern), son Terry Morris(Margo), grandchildren Lindsey De La Rosa (Roger), Jason David, Chad Morris and Chelsea Morris along with numerous nephews and nieces.
