Jimmy was a unique individual and was loved by many of his air force buddies.  We first met in 1974 at zweibrucken afb.  We became very close over our tour in Germany.  We camped skiied went to Nuremberg races and a concert or two.

We stayed in touch after leaving Germany, especially since I helped him and Linda ship their personal belongings from Germany to George afb.  I was a Sgt and could ship more weight free due to my rank.  It allowed me to help Jimmy and Linda early in their marriage.

I got to meet his family in Fresno one year and saw how proud everyone was of him.  He was truly like a brother to me.

I miss him a lot and wish his family the best.

He is with the lord now and his parents.

Jimmy will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, coaching at baseball games, his larger than life voice and personality as well as his passion for airplanes. He had such an infectious laugh and we loved to hear about his many experiences in the different places he lived while in the Air Force.  We will miss him and look forward to seeing him in heaven.

I first met Jimmy in January of 2020 when I flew to CAU Bakersfield to do a plane swap. Jimmy was the first person to greet me. Perhaps because I am an A&P like he was, or perhaps because I am also a MSgt in the Air Force, whatever the reason I felt an immediate kindred spirit with Jimmy. Every time I came up to CAU Bakersfield I found Jimmy or he found me. In San Diego, I always could call Jimmy with a maintenance issue (even though I wasn't supposed to), but Jimmy was there to help or even call me to check on a problem. Jimmy had a huge smile and enthusiastic personality that I will never forget. I was saddened when I heard Jimmy was retiring, and shocked and deeply distraught to learn of his passing. He will be missed by so many, myself included.

Jimmy was a GENIUS when it came to our airplanes at CAU. Me and my instructor spent an hour attempting to start up the airplane. Jimmy came to us and got it started like it was no big deal. He had a real magic touch with the airplanes and on top of that, a great personality. Although I didn’t talk to Jimmy too much, in the interactions I did have with him. I always got a good laugh from him! May he Rest In Peace. 

Jimmy played an important role in my life and the life of my family. We coached together at Northwest Baseball. I learned so much from him. He was a great friend, coach, and mentor to the kids. Jimmy praised every kid’s accomplishments, even including a bunt. Known as “The Bunt” for those who were on that team. 

My son Zack is still playing baseball, in part, due to coaches like Jimmy Garcia.

Jimmy was also a part time Instuctor for the new AMT program at CAU where he helped influence the next generation of aircraft mechanics. He inspired the students with his passion for aviation. He will be sorely missed.
