Julius Darrington Jr.

1933 - 2015

Julius Darrington, Jr., USAF, Ret., has reported to his new duty station in

Heaven after receiving PCS orders from his Commanding Officer on

Thursday evening, December 31, 2015. Born in Monroe, Louisiana to

Julius Darrington, Sr. and Earnestine Ballard Darrington on April 8, 1933, Julius was the oldest of 12 siblings and two half siblings.

Julius was a 1955 graduate ofArkansas AM&N College, Pine Bluff, AR, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a graduate of Webster College with a MA in Procurement Management. Heserved proudly in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years with various tours of duty including Japan, Hawaii,

Vietnam, and Stateside. He was greeted in Heaven by many family

members including his parents and brother, James L. Darrington. It was while stationed at Ft. Ritchie, MD that a young Private in the Woman's Army Corp, Ruth Velasquez, caught his eye while he was at the mess hall. They married on November 1, 1969 and began their life adventure

together living in Alaska and Colorado and finally retiring in Bakersfield where he was loved and respected by his many sisters-in-law and their families. Julius was also adored by all of his siblings and their families. He loved all his

extended family and friends, and nothing made him happier than a full house and good food. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He loved fishing for salmon while stationed in Alaska.Another passion of his was being a High School Football Official while living in Colorado Springs.

Julius was co-owner with Ruth of Kuka's Folk Art in downtown

Bakersfield where he became friends with many customers and especially enjoyed conversations with fellow military veterans. He was a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, a member and Steward of Cain A.M.E. Church, and a faithful soldier in God's Army. Julius is survived

by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruth, son Sean Julius (Eurydice) and

granddaughter Olivia, daughter Mia Darrington and granddaughter Jayda, and daughter Briana Lyn Darrington - Coston (Jonathan). Julius is also survived by numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and his faithful companions Samba and Dagger.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to his team of

doctors, in particular Dr. Parikshat Sharma who was so supportive and

caring, the nurses, and PCPs at The Heart Hospital. We will forever

remember the kindness and incredible compassion shown to us during those most difficult days. Services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Julius lived a full life with an amazing love for his wife, Ruth, his children, and grandchildren. We will love him and miss him always. Some of the last words he spoke were, "It is well with my soul." I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
