Linda Bennett

Linda is survived by her son, Steven Bennett (Treece) and grandchildren, Madison Nykolayow (Richard), Evan Bennett (Lexi) and Hunter Brown, all of Bakersfield. Her extended family includes Michel Haller Bennett (Chad) of Bakersfield, Melissa Larson (Jed) of Bakersfield, Jason Tirado (Brooke) of Lodi and great-grandchildren Nolan and Leah Larson of Bakersfield and Jorah and Thea Tirado of Lodi. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Sylvia Shapiro, her loving husband, Gary, and her beloved daughter Marcy Self.

Linda’s family moved to California in the 1940s where she met Gary Bennett while attending East Los Angeles College. They married on March 26, 1961. She became a school teacher in Montebello, California. They started their family in 1964 with the birth of their daughter, Marcy followed by the birth of their son, Steven in 1966. In 1982 the family moved to Bakersfield, CA. Linda continued her teaching career at Beardsley Elementary School until she retired after teaching for 46 years.

Linda was involved in her community of Brighton Parks and enjoyed all the activities they offered. She made many wonderful and close friends there and her days were full of playing mahjong, going to lunches, and spending time with all her friends, family, and extended family. She never passed up an opportunity to take a trip to a casino and went on many cruises and vacations with family and friends. Her calendar was very full.

Linda was also a supporter of various charities, both locally and nationally.

A Graveside Service for Linda Bennett is scheduled for March 5, 2024, at 10:30 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93306.
