

Born March 31, 1931 in Pottsville, Arkansas to Emma Wagoner Smith Whitley, Step father Bill Whitley,

She graduated from Porum High School in Porum, Oklahoma in 1949
She worked for Muskogee Telephone Company after graduation where she was introduced to her future husband Private John Joseph King (serving in the US Army during the Korean War) and married him on January 16, 1952 in Fort Smith Arkansas only 4 weeks after she met him.
They relocated to Bakersfield, Ca in 1956.
They started King’s Trailer Towing and she worked from home while raising her two children. She also worked at the post office in Greenfield for several years with her best friend Vicki Bell.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years John J. King (DOD 8-26-2002), son John Michael King (DOD 7-4-2019), mother Emma Whitley, step-father Bill Whitley, sisters Robbie Hugart, Naomi Darter, Jean Lindsey, brothers-in-law, Jerry Darter, Doyle Lindsey and her bio father John Cook.
She is survived by her daughter Teresa L. King-Pruitt and son-in-law Richard Pruitt, niece Renee Hunt nephews David Darter and wife Deanna, Mark Darter and wife Odette and great nephew BJ Hunt
Grandchildren Candi King, Susan Marsh and James King.

Mom loved to cook and made the best pepper steak, fried okra, beans, corn bread and banana pudding that you ever ate. She also loved to knit and made many many pairs of slippers for family and friends. She loved her garden and grew the best tomatoes and corn along with raising chicken, pigs and turkeys. She loved the ocean and would visit as much as she could. She enjoyed attending Sacred Heart church and the many friends she had there.
This beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend will be missed by all.
