Lola Mae (Isaacs) Roberts was born on September 22, 1927 to Jesse and Ida Belle Isaacs on a farm in Konowa, Oklahoma. She was the sixth of eleven children who worked the farm with their Pop and the household with their Mom. They grew all of their own vegetables and fruit and raised their animals for food. "The Farm" as it was known by all, was a place of great love and care. It was without the modern conveniences of today. There was no running water or electricity for many years and it was a place where hard work was honored, family was unconditionally loved and friends were always welcome. On Sundays, the entire family would load up in a horse drawn wagon and head to church where the Isaac clan sang in the choir, played music on several instruments and worshipped God. Food and love were generously given to whoever showed up to "The Farm" for Sunday meals. Christmas was a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus and meager gifts of fresh fruit were given and received with gratitude. Grandma Lola never came to understand the commercialism of Christmas. She was always thankful for the little things...small acts of kindness and a bowl of chocolate ice cream! Lola married E.T. Roberts, a World War II Veteran, in September of 1946 and they moved to Bakersfield in 1949. It is here in Bakersfield that their two sons, Steve and Randy, were born. Although E.T. and Lola raised their family in California, Lola never really left her Oklahoma roots behind. She talked often of life on "The Farm" and we never tired of her stories. It was a life that was so far removed from our present day and when we listened to her, we were always humbled by her youthful experiences and lifestyle. Her background defined who she was everyday of her life. Grandma passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2011, with E.T. at her side. They had decided together that she would spend her last days at home. It is there that E.T. loved and cared for her until her last breath. They were married for 64 years, had two sons, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Lola's greatest joys were her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Over time Grandma Lola and Papa T. raised nieces, nephews and grandkids. Their home was always open to anyone, especially children. Her love knew no bounds. Lola is preceded in death by her Mom and Pop, her brothers Orville, Beecher, Raymond and Doug, brothers-in-law Ode, Gene, Jim and Charlie and sister-in-law Nora. She is survived by her husband E.T., her sisters Laveda, Neva, Audrey and Wyoma, her brothers Vernon (Pat) and Bill (Juanda), her sister-in-law Fairy, her sons Randy (Brooke) and Steve, her grandchildren Matt, Stephanie, Justin (Kim), Lacey (Jared), Eddie, Ryan and Geena, and her great grandchildren Samuel, Brooklynn, Jaxon and Caidence, and lots of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Debbie Aurin and Lisa MacKessey for the love and devotion they have shared with Lola over the years. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8th, at 10 a.m.at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary (9101 Kern Canyon Rd. Bakersfield). Pall Bearers will be grandsons Matt, Justin, Eddie and Ryan Roberts, grandson-in-law Jared Coppolo and nephew Darren Isaacs. Honorary Pall Bearers are Gary DeArmon and Greg Hicks. Lola will be loved and missed always. This holiday season will be tough without her.
