Margaret Thola Tigner McCain, age 96, went home to be with the LORD on Tuesday September 9, 2025 after living a long and blessed life. Margie passed away peacefully in her Bakersfield home with her family as was her wish. For the last 3 years Gricelda Morales, a loving and dedicated family friend turned caregiver has been taking excellent care of her.
Margie was born on November 20, 1928 to Clarence and Loma Tigner in Porterville, CA and moved to Bakersfield at a young age. Margie attended Kern Union High School and in 1946, she fell in love with and married the school bus driver Bud McCain who was just home from WWII. Bud and Margie were happily married for 62 years. Margie was a homemaker and spent her entire life caring for her family. She had the gift of hospitality and took great pride in her homemaking skills. Margie loved to sew, take photos, cook, garden, play bridge, bake, travel and take care of her grandchildren. She and Bud belonged to Stockdale Country Club until 2002 where Margie won many Kern County Women's championship titles.
In 1996, Margie joined Valley Baptist Church where she attended the Pastor's Class for the better part of 25 years. Margie also attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years, eagerly studying the Word of God. Her passion in the last 30 years of her life was working diligently on her Ancestry Family Tree that has almost 6,000 profiles logged. She has traced our roots back to the early 1500s. She wrote a book entitled Campfire Stories in which she wrote down a collection of memories and stories of family members so they could be remembered after she was gone.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband George "Bud" McCain, son-in-law Vincent Zaninovich, great-grandson Bryce Bennett and great-great grandson Oliver Shine.
