Marlene Z. Edwards, 86, of Bakersfield, California, peacefully fell asleep in death on January 22, 2025, in the comfort of her home. Born to Marvin and Minnie Coit, Marlene was the pride and joy of her family, embodying the rich traditions and love passed down through generations.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marlene cherished her role in her family's life, successfully nurturing her children Danny Fillmore and Michael K. Fillmore, as well as her grandchildren Jason M. Fillmore, David Fillmore, and Danielle Storile. Her warmth and caring nature extended to her great-grandchildren, Nadia G. Fillmore, Zion J. Fillmore, Barrett Fillmore, and Theo Storlie, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Marlene was also the beloved stepmother to Michelle Rippy and her family. Known for her generous spirit, she dedicated much of her time to causes dear to her heart, including the Kern Autism Society. An avid lover of art, music, and animals, she had a contagious smile that could brighten any day and hugs that were known to warm any heart.
Marlene’s kind, caring, selfless, and nurturing personality left a significant impact on everyone who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Minnie Coit. Ralph Samuel Fillmore and Thomas Edwards whom both loved her through her journey of life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Marlene's life at funeral services to be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 1 p.m., with graveside services to follow at Hillcrest Mortuary. In honoring Marlene’s legacy, the family encourages all to carry forward her spirit of love and generosity.
Marlene will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and in every life she touched. A special thank you to Hoffmann Hospice for all the love and support they showered Marlene with toward the end of her life's journey.
