Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Mike was born in Kearns, Texas and moved with his family to Bakersfield in 1947. A graduate of Bakersfield High School, Mike served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, working as a clerk in the motor pool, played baseball, and took up boxing. Countless individuals knew him as a salesman for Sequoia Paint (where he retired after 31 years) or as owner of Sam's Delight on River Boulevard.
A lover of life, Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Isabel and Alfonso, as well as two brothers, Thomas and Matt.
He is survived by the love of his life, Diana Marroquin, his five sons—Mark Marroquin (Christy), Richard Roux (Margaret), Scott Roux, Michael Marroquin, and Christopher Marroquin. Mike also leaves behind the grandchildren he adored—Joshua Marroquin, Jaylene Roux, Eileen Roux, Jacob Marroquin, Logan Marroquin, Joseph Roux, Taylor Marroquin, Ashley Lockhart, Patrick Matsuda, and great granddaughter Gianni Vasquez. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters Francis Chavez (Rudy), Ruth Padilla, Margaret Marroquin, Marta Gradowitz (Max), and Minga Jimenez. There are also countless in-laws, nieces and nephews who mourn the loss of this amazing man. He fought a valiant fight against mesothelioma, but he is now at peace. The skies opened up the morning he went to heaven. Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but our lives are forever enriched. He was "nothing but the best!"
Services will be on Saturday, April 5 at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Park, followed by a graveside service. "May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, And the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand."
