Dean passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Murray Dean Shipp was born in Marlow, Oklahoma on September 19th 1944. His father served in World War II and was away when Dean was born. The family moved to Germany in 1953 where he attended school until the 11th grade when his mother passed away. Dean left school to help raise his sisters. In 1962 Dean, his father and his sisters moved to Bakersfield where he met and fell in love with Marilyn - the love of his life. They were married 50 years. He then started his career as a welder for Ernie Thomas Co. and he then later started the welding division of Superior Tank Company with a friend. Dean eventually took over major sales and operational duties for the company after his partners passing a few years later. Dean and Superior Tank together grew to be a premier tank builder on the west coast. Dean remained with the company as a salesman where he worked up until the day he entered the hospital. Dean's passions included going to swap meets and garage sales, setting up elaborate Christmas displays and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dean especially loved to garden and you could always tell which house was his as it was the best lawn and garden in the neighborhood. He absolutely loved the friendship and comradery he had with friends in his neighborhood and spoke too many on a daily basis. He will always be remembered for his work ethic and his charity.
Dean is preceded in death by his mother Bessie and his father Murray Shipp Sr. and his niece Sandra Harich. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Marilyn, his daughter Tammy Watson and her husband Terry, his sons Steven and DeanShipp Jr. and his daughter Shelly Shipp.
He is also survived by his grand kids, James Dean and his wife Jennifer, Sarah Kite and her husband Alex, Chris Shipp and his wife Kanda, his grandkids Natalie Loyd, Nicolas Shipp, Ethen Shipp and Madison Claffy and his great grandchildren, Shea, and Mattie and Turner Dean.
He is also survived by his sisters Sharon Morningstar, Debbie Tolson and Kathy Shipp
He will always be remembered for his charisma, sense of humor, honesty, straight forwardness and his compelling ability to make the best out of every situation.

The visitation will be held Thursday, June 11th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and Hillcrest Mortuary. Services will be held at Friday, June 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel on Kern Canyon Rd. in Bakersfield.
