Pete Calvillo Castro, a devoted family man and beloved community member, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025. Known for his kindness and warmth, Pete never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Born in Bakersfield, California, to Bruno and Mary Castro, Pete graduated from Arvin High School as part of the first complete graduating class. He attended Bakersfield College before serving in the U.S. Army, where he trained war dogs in Germany during the Korean Conflict, creating lifelong memories with his comrades and his beloved dog, Ordan.
Pete’s nearly 40-year career in beverage distribution included roles at Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, Advance Beverage Company, W.A. Thompson Coors, and Kern Valley Distributing (where he had the pleasure of working for Joe Franceschi) where he managed special events across Kern County. He built enduring friendships and became a familiar face at events like the Kern County Fair, Bakersfield Business Conferences, and Pyles Boys Camp BBQs.
Beyond work, Pete found joy in coaching his sons in baseball, cheering on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their events, traveling to Puerto Vallarta, and camping along the California coast. A loyal Rams and Dodgers fan, he hosted annual Super Bowl parties that became a cherished family tradition—a tradition his son Steve proudly continues.
Pete is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Dolores “Guevara” Castro, who was his steadfast partner and support. Together, they raised a united and loving family. He is survived by his children:
- Tammy Castro-Kuster, husband Ken Kuster, grandson Justin Kuster (fiancée Amy Lewis).
-Steve Castro, wife and daughter in law Cindy "Martinez" Castro, Granddaughters Jennifer Castro, Heather Castro Gonzales, Grandson in-law Christian Gonzales, Great Granddaughters Kennedy and Nixon.
- Eric “Rick” Castro (Guadalupe “Venegas” Castro), grandchildren Tiara Castro, Tiayana Rennert (Josh), Aubrey Caffrey (James), and Ericka Brown; great-grandchildren Ava, Ryan, Ren, Clinton, and Cash.
Graveside services will be held on January 29, 2025, at 10 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pete will be remembered as a man who taught his family to embrace life with love, loyalty, and joy. His legacy will live on through the countless memories he created with his loved ones and the community he touched so deeply.
