Rebecca June Peterson (Fletcher)
Rebecca “Becky” was born June 1, 1928 to Rev. William A. and Catherine L. Fletcher (Emmett) in San Luis Obispo, CA and went to be with the Lord June 26, 2022. She moved with her family to Coalinga, CA at the age of 7 years and graduated from Coalinga High in 1947.
Rebecca met Frederick H. Peterson and they were married on February 25, 1949 at the Presidio in Monterey, CA.
She graduated from West Hills Community College in Coalinga in 1966 with an AA degree in Accounting and Art. However, she could never see herself stuck in an office as she loved being with people and became a waitress in several establishments in Coalinga. When her husband was transferred to Bakersfield, CA, she worked for Sambo’s Restaurants in two locations for several years before taking a medical retirement due to hip problems.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Peterson (David Pantoja) of Hesperia, CA, two granddaughters, Raquel Blevins of Las Vegas, NV and Brandi Mozur (Justin) of Boulder City, NV; five great grandchildren, Sheridan and Sydney Anderson, Taylor Cunningham, Connor and Brynlee Mozur; one brother, Jim (Renate) Porter; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Frederick “Fred” and son, Michael.
Rebecca was a true woman of God. She was an active member of several churches over her lifetime the last one being Life Point in Arroyo Grande prior to moving to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Hesperia. She was a member of the Five-Cities Christian Women’s Fellowship and the Joy Singers. She was also an active member of the Grange of Grover Beach. She loved helping where ever and how ever she could, from collecting stamps to soda pop tops, to cooking and baking for functions. She loved arts and crafts. She was an artist and painted several paintings for friends and relatives. She would praise her Lord and Savior at every opportunity and share His love with everyone she met right up to her last breathe. She loved singing the old hymns and especially the one Native American song that her father taught her when she was a child.
Rebecca loved her family and always “wondered” how everyone was doing and would often ask “have you heard from…”. She became unofficial “Grandma” to a young woman (Kelly) and her children when her son, Michael, befriended her when her boyfriend deserted her. Together they brought her to the Lord.
A graveside service will be held in conjunction with her son, Michael Frederick Peterson, on September 23, 2022 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93306 at 11 a.m. A reception is planned at Courtyard by Marriott, 3601 Marriott Dr., Bakersfield, CA, 93308.
