Rodney Scott Powell

April 16th, 1973 -June 28th, 2018

Rodney Scott Powell passed on June 28th, 2018 at age 45 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Rodney (known as Rod to his family and close friends) was born on April 16th, 1973 in Bakersfield, CA to David and Lorraine Powell. Although he was raised in Bakersfield, he spent a few years living in Texas and Oklahoma.

Rod, being the Renaissance man with multiple interests, excelled in painting, maintenance and computers, but had a true passion for cooking. Some of Rod's favorite things included listening to his music, wearing plaid and fedora's. He also collected Asian art and swords and was involved in Martial Arts for many years. Rod was happiest when he was listening to music, hanging out with family and friends and enjoying good food.

Rod was raised in a Christian home and loved God. He is survived by his parents, David and Lorraine Powell, siblings Cindy and Ryan, a niece, two nephews, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He will be truly missed, but his great sense of humor and kind heart will never be forgotten.

We want to thank AIS cancer center, SJCH/Adventist health and Optimal Hospice for the care and compassion they gave to Rod.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, July 12th at 2pm at the Hillcrest Chapel at 9101 Kern Canyon Road.
