

Sally was born Vera Mae Owens on December 15, 1925 in Addington, Oklahoma. She went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2010 in Salem, Oregon. Sally was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Raymond Boyd, her mother and step-father, Lillie Rachael and H.R. Brown, her father, C.B. Owens, and her beloved brother Carroll B. Owens. She is survived by two sons, Phillip Boyd and wife Beatriz of Austin, Texas, and Scott Boyd and wife Lisa of Hart Flat, California; four daughters, Dawn Perrault of Keizer, Oregon, Karen Boyd, Konny Boyd and Sheila Dormier, all of Bakersfield, California; and her dear niece, Carolyn Bishop and husband Kenneth also of Bakersfield. Sally is also survived by eight grandchildren, Laura Alvarez and husband Santos, Brandi Perrault and partner Dyana Mitchell, Chad Smith and wife Lola, Jason Boyd and wife Melissa, Tye Smith, David Boyd, Denise Boyd and partner Henry Moreau, Tracy Zimmermann and husband Adam, Emily Peacock and husband Robert, ten great-grand- children, great-nephews Bruce and Alan Bryant, and life-long friend, Norma Holmes. Throughout her life Sally was a staunch conservative and was passionately dedicated to supporting and working hard toward the betterment of our country. Friends and family say that Sally's blood ran "Red, White & Blue." She was chosen to be a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976. Sally was a personal friend to Ronald Reagan and she felt that one of her greatest accomplishments was working tirelessly toward his elections as Governor of California and President of the United States. Sally received the Sealy Award for Outstanding Service and Accomplishment from the National Right to Work Foundation. She was awarded a Citizen of the Year award from the Bakersfield Junior Women's Club. Sally was a long-time member of the Republican Women's Club and of the Bakersfield Women's Club. Sally dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. She was also an avid viewer of golf and football, and loved Tiger Woods and the New England Patriots. Most recently she developed a love of playing Bean Bag Baseball, Wii Bowling and Bingo at her retirement community. Family members feel that Sally's greatest attributes were her dedication to family, her strong work ethic, her love of her country, and her desire to help anyone in need. Sally will be deeply missed by family and friends and we will all await the opportunity to rejoice when we meet again. Chapel and graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary (9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, California) at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2010.
