She was deeply cherished by all who knew her. Her infectious smile, sparkling eyes, and loving spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
Sandra was born on May 17, 1952, in Bakersfield, California, to Santos and Josephine Enriquez. She attended Fremont Elementary School, Lincoln Jr. High, and Bakersfield High School, proudly belonging to the Class of 1970-always exclaiming, "Go Drillers!" During her time at BHS, she was active in Valkyries, the Modern Dance Club, Student Government, and was a Songleader. After high school, she continued her education at Bakersfield College and later at Cal State University Bakersfield, where she participated in the Mini Corps Teaching Program-an experience she fondly reminisced about. In 1974, Sandra began her teaching career with the Arvin Union School District. Her passion for education led her to earn a Master's degree in Reading Education in 1980. For over four decades, from 1974 to 2016, she poured her heart and soul into shaping the young minds of Kern County, leaving a lasting impact on countless students.
After retirement, Sandra remained active in her faith and community, participating in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), Rosary Group, and Prayer Group, while also dedicating time to researching her family's roots. She loved traveling with her husband, Mark, and often dreamed of moving to Tennessee-if only she could have brought her entire family along.
Sandra was a devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, friend, and prayer warrior. She had a gift for making every moment special, serving as a confidant, encourager, and source of endless laughter. Her sense of humor was unmatched, always finding a way to brighten even the darkest days.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Russell; her sister, Vickie Enriquez Steele; her children and their spouses, Kelly Quintana (Scott), Ian Elliott (Samantha), Joshua Russell (Stephanie), Rachel Russell, and Jordan Russell; and her grandchildren, George Demestihas, Jimmy Demestihas, Charlotte Elliott, Samara Russell, Avery Quintana, and Cohen Quintana. Along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Santos and Josephine Enriquez, and her beloved sisters, Jeannie Enriquez Vargas and Linda Mireles.
A Rosary will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 12300 Reina Road, on Saturday, March 15, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Monsignor Perry Kavookjian. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road.
Sandra's legacy of love, faith, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
