November 27, 2014, at Kindred Hospital South Bay in Gardena,
California where she was receiving palliative care. Joanne was born
on January 7, 1932, the third of five children born to the late George
and Colene David. George was the son of R. David who was the
Patriarch of one of the first large farming families of southern
Bakersfield in the Wheeler Ridge area, noted today by the existing
David Road. Joanne grew up on the farm along with her 4 siblings.
She met Tommy Lue Boozer in the Fall of 1948 at the Methodist
Church in Lamont. Story has it Tom lived on an oil field lease and
decided to look for a wife. He figured church would be a great place for his search
and it just so happened that is where the David family attended services. It didn’t
take long for Joanne to know that Tom was the one for her and they married on
March 31, 1949 in Las Vegas and wasted no time starting their family. Together,
Tom and Joanne raised five children, three daughters and two sons, in the
Arvin/Lamont/Greenfield area and finally in Bakersfield. Early on, they entered
into many business ventures such as owning and operating grocery stores in
Lamont and Arvin, and later worked in land and rental property development.
Joanne devoted her time to working with Tom managing their rental and land
speculation business in California and Oklahoma – a full time job that she was still
performing until she fell ill in October of this year.
Joanne was sure to make her family her priority. She was known by her family
as the care taker who meant business. Her hard work, dedication, and loving,
quick wit was noted and admired by all who knew her, especially her children and
grandchildren. Her positive influence will be missed by all.
Joanne leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband of 65 years,
Tommy Lue Boozer of Bakersfield; her sisters Elsie Holiday, Jean Williams, and
Mary Shields. Joanne was preceded in death by her younger brother, Wayne
David. To continue her legacy are Joanne’s five children: daughter Deborah and
husband Phil Carmona of Bakersfield; daughter Donna and husband Jack Janszen
of Bakersfield; son Brent Boozer and wife Terry Owens Boozer of San Ramon; son
Marshall Boozer of Bakersfield; daughter Kelly and husband Joe DiGiacomo of
Bakersfield; granddaughter Candice and husband Marco Sifuentes; granddaughter
Amy Carmona; granddaughter Ginger and husband Patrick Wejmar; grandsons
Joseph Jr. and Thomas DiGiacomo and granddaughters Kate and Sara DiGiacomo;
granddaughters Stephanie and Lisa Boozer and grandson Michael Boozer;
grandson Max Janszen. Joanne also had four beautiful great-grandchildren: Calista
and Alyssa Sifuentes; William and Johnathon Wejmar.
The family wishes to thank all those that cared for Joanne at San Joaquin
Community Hospital. While Joanne enjoyed beautiful bouquets, donations may be
made in lieu of flowers to any charity of your choice.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2:00 pm, at Hillcrest
Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road.
