

Bill was born in Los Angeles, CA. He was the thirdson of four boys born to Frank and Virginia Foulkes.During World War II at age 17, he joined the Navy. Heserved four years mostly in the Philippine Islands. Hethen joined the Army for four years. In 1953 hemarried the girl next door, Audrey. After graduatingfrom Don Martin Radio and TV School in Hollywood,he went to KSWS Radio/TV in Roswell, NM as a discJockey and on camera announcer. Later he had ashort stint at KSBW Channel 8 in Salinas when KBIF’sDave Maxwell (Zent) in Fresno called, and Bill becameone of the “Big Five” radio announcers. This started alifelong friendship with the Zents. Next he went toKBIG on Catalina Island and was a Big BandDisc-Jockey. His next move was to Bakersfield wherehe worked at local radio and television stations, andhad an advertising agency. He was well known for hisopening phrase “Hi, folks, Bill Foulkes here”. Onenight while working at a TV station he and thecameraman made 42 commercials with no teleprompter. He was known for hisquick wit and humor. He was fast with jokes and a friend to everyone. Even afterretirement, his love of music brought him back to the Big Band sound at KBID as aDisc-Jockey. In 2013 he was very fortunate to go on the Honor Flight with fellowveterans to Washington, DC. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Audrey, Three daughters; Lori Mallard(Chris-dec.), Cathy (Joe-dec.), Chris McBride (Matt). And grandchildren; Curtis,Gary (dec), Valerie, and Christine. Another Icon from the Greatest Generation has passed, but will always be lovedand remembered. A Memorial Service will be Held at Hillcrest Memorial ParkChapel, located at 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306 Saturday May30th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kern CountyHonor Flight. “That’s all folks”
