With a heavy and broken heart, the angels of our Lord have called our mother, Edna Elvira Almodovar, to her rightful heavenly home, on August 15, 2020. Edna was born during the Christmas season, on December 21, 1949, in Ponce, Puerto
Rico. Mom was as magical as the town she was born in. As colorful as the houses are in Puerto Rico, so was her childhood. Living her life, moving from state to state, as a military kid with her father, Sergeant Angel Luis Munoz, her beautiful mother, Rosa Julia
Franceschini Munoz, and her four siblings: Wilfredo, Rosa Maria, Luis Munoz, and little Rosie. This young and energetic lady was a genius and she was even able to skip 3 whole grades in elementary school. The stars were the limit for her exuberance. She graduated
at age 16 in El Paso, Texas from William H. Burges High School Mustangs in 1968. At 20, she graduated from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico in 1972 as part of the Teacher's Corps Program for Bilingual teachers. Following graduation, she taught in
Guaynabo, Puerto Rico for four years prior to relocating to California. Down the road, she also completed two additional Master's Degrees from the University of Redlands and the University of La Verne.
She was one of everyone’s favorite teachers, growing up. Her teaching career spanned over 40 years, the majority of her teaching career being spent at Kennedy Middle School. She received her first job opportunity, in California, from
the late Mr. Richard Brown at Barstow Jr. High School in 1974. Along with her regular teaching job, Mom had also donated over 400 undocumented hours, along with her loyal and hard-working annual staff, creating school yearbooks that set the bar high for all
other schools in the nation. In 1977, she started from a small paperback yearbook to a hardcover yearbook in 1981. She began receiving national awards in 1994, and The Award of excellence from Taylor Publishing, in 1996. Then in 1997 her Kennedy Yearbook was
selected as a national sample by the Taylor Publishing Company along with National Honors and was to be used as a teaching tool provided across the country. Her awards were numerous and her praise was much deserved. She was so popular, among her students, that
many even called her Mom, because of how she had an overwhelming want to nurture all of those young minds that entered her classroom. She loved each and every one of them and wanted nothing less than for them to reach their full potential. She believed in you
even when you didn’t believe in yourself. It wasn’t just a job to her. It was her calling and she chose it gladly. When she put her mind to something, there was nothing that could stop her.
A once in a lifetime soul, she treated her friends like family and her family like pieces of her own heart. She cheered for your successes and comforted you when you failed. Her hugs felt like home and her words soothed like kisses.
You wanted to make her happy and see that gorgeous smile spread, across her face, from ear to ear. You loved to see her face light up because when it did, not even the sun was brighter.
Edna Elvira Almodovar was preceded in death by her father and mother, Angel Luis Munoz and Rosa Julia Franceschini, and her younger brother and sister, Luis M. Munoz, and Rosa J. Ibarra. She is survived by her two older siblings and
brother in law, William Fabiani and Rosa and Antonio Perez. She leaves behind, the “Love of her Life”, her loving and adoring husband of 45 years, Angel Emilio Almodovar, her two sons, Manuel and Rafael Emilio Almodovar, her daughter in law’s, Sonia and Corina
Almodovar, and her grandbabies: Nathaniel, Lilliana, Gabriel, Isabella, Angel, and Rafael Jr. Her loving heart was so huge that even her nieces and nephews treated her like their second mom, with their children becoming her second grandbabies, who would call
her their “Nana”, as well. Her love was pure and selfless. She gave all that she could and never regretted any of it. Hers was a life of no regrets. She lived it to the fullest and enjoyed every moment that she could. It was a life lived right, by God, and
a life that was cherished by all those that got to know her. A shining example of what is possible if you always believe in yourself and follow your dreams. The sky was the limit and she loved to watch you fly. We love you Mom and we miss you every second of
every day. You are an angel, always and forever..."
Manuel “Kavi” Almodovar
