Ernest Harold Packer (Ernie), 67, of Newberry Springs, passed away August 18, 2016. He was born in Santa Ana, California on December 14, 1948, but moved to the high desert when he was about 3. Ernie was married to Susan Packer on March 2, 1968. Ernie worked many occupations and was known by many as a “Jack of all Trades”. When something needed fixing, he was the man to call. He lived the majority of his life in Newberry Springs and was somewhat of a desert expert. Ernie enjoyed gardening, tinkering in the garage, off-roading with his family and friends, and listening to audiobooks. He served our country proudly during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion. Ernie was also a member of an off-roading group, the High Desert Pygmies. He was survived by his wife, Susan; children: Brian and Crystal Packer, Shawn and Kari Packer, Brandi and Eric Gold, Wendy Packer, and Lacie Packer; grandchildren: Justine, Ryan, Bradley, Jillian, Kamran, Grant, Dexter, Alex, and Gavin; brothers: Donald Stilwell and Robert Black and sister, Carol Morgan. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, August 27, at the Newberry Springs Community Building.
