Eileen A. Lammers

Eileen was born to Paul and Mary Werthman on March 26, 1931 on a small, family farm near Crofton, Nebraska. The youngest of five children, she was raised in the town of Hartington, Nebraska. She attended Trinity Catholic High School, where she met Richard "Dick" Lammers. On June 26, 1950, one year after her graduation, they were married in her home town.

In 1953, a year after the birth of their first child, the couple followed Eileen's sister, Rosella Mutter, to Redlands, California. They found a new home in nearby Yucaipa in 1955, decided that the small, picturesque town was ideal for a new family, and became permanent residents.

Eileen and Dick were co-owners of the Yucaipa and Calimesa Food Fair Markets for 40 years. While raising her family of four children, she served as the head bookkeeper for the grocery stores and the secretary-treasurer for the Calimesa Plaza Shopping Center. Eileen was an active member of her church, Saint Francis Xavier Cabrini, serving as a life member of the Catholic Daughters and as a Eucharistic Minister.

She loved cooking, knitting, and flower gardening. Eileen recorded all family events in photographs, which have become priceless family treasures. She will also be fondly remembered for her elaborate meals and perfectly kept house.

Eileen was the last living member of her siblings—Rosella Mutter, Dolores Kramer, Al Werthman, and Harry Werthman. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dick Lammers, her four children and their spouses, Richard L. Lammers (Mattawan, Michigan), Michael Lammers (Beaumont, California), Diane Lissner (Santa Ana, California), and Steven Lammers (Hawthorne Woods, Illinois.) Her spirit also lives on in her 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, January 16, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM, at Saint Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Yucaipa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Saint Francis Xavier Cabrini Building Fund.
