

James Peter Barrett, 91, of Beaumont, California, passed away Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014, following a stroke. He was born in Beaumont October 18, 1922, to Charles Louis and Anna Barbara Barrett. James was the oldest of seven children.
After graduating from Beaumont High School, he served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following the war, James trained to become an engineer in the field of aerospace. His work included designing parts for some of the country's first spacecraft.
James loved gardening and reading. some of his favorite subjects of study included science, history and Christianity. His wife Peggy, of over 30 years, remembers his as a happy many who enjoyed life.
James is survived by his wife Peggy Barrett; brothers Fred, Jack and Charles Barrett; sisters Margaret Goodrich and Barbara Gordon and step-daughters Sharon Southworth, Cheryl Naujock and Jayne Schelden. He is also survived by grandchildren Andrea Edwards, Mindy Knust, Patrice Knust, Peter Schelden, Erik Naujock, Forrest Naujock and Luke Schelden and great grandchildren Adam Knust, Jake Knust, Derek Edwards, Ricky Foringer, Kira Knust, Colin Knust, Saul Naujock and Aurora Schelden. He was preceded in death by a brother Wade Barrett.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Beaumont First Baptist Church, where he was a member of long standing.
Arrangements were entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, California.
