

James Russell Maynard succumbed to a lengthy illness on May 19, 2014, at Hemet Valley Medical Center, Hemet, California. Jim was born at Loma Linda Hospital, Loma Linda, California November 26, 1945 and spent most of his younger years in Palm Springs, California, being raised by his well-known parents, Jim and Rena Maynard.
As a teenager, Jim moved with his family to Missoula, Montana where his sense of adventure in the wilderness was nurtured. As a young adult, Jim returned to the desert where he began his lifelong career in the building trade as an electrician. Jim loved his work and excelled at it. His employers quickly recognized his great talent and asked him to manage many jobs. Jim moved from residential to large industrial projects and retired from the IBEW Local 440 after 25 years.
Retirement did not suit him and he returned to the work place as an Electrical Inspector for Metropolitan Water District where he stayed for 19 years. Jim was well respected and loved by many. Jim was known throughout the electrical industry for his expertise and commitment, but his real love was his family and his Jeep. Jim planned many extensive trips for his friends which will be missed by the many who joined him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Donna; mother Rena Nelson; step-father Ray Nelson; sister Earlene Drake; four sons Jimmy, Scott, Christopher and James and two daughters Jessica and Erica. Jim is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorial service Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 11:00am, at Mountain Avenue Baptist Church, 1325 Mountain Avenue, Banning, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Green Beret Foundation, in Jim's name.
Arrangements were entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, California.
