Patricia “Pat” Ann Manning, 84, of Banning, CA, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 29, 1932 in Elizabethtown, PA, to Ruth and Paul Hess. She was happily married to the late Stanley “Stan” Manning for 50 years. She is survived by her children Barbara Preston, Steve (Patty), Nancy Boer (Bill), Mike (Linda), 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pat graduated from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, where she met Stan. Together they moved to Oak Park, CA in 1968 and resided there for 31 years. In 1999, Pat and Stan started their retirement years at the Sun Lakes community in Banning.
From 1972-77, Pat was employed by Film Composer Elmer Bernstein. She then worked from 1977-83 for assembly members Paul Priolo and Marian LaFollette. From 1983-87 she worked as the secretary to the city manager of Agoura Hills before becoming the City Clerk from 1990-97.
Pat was an icon in the community of Oak Park. She was a founding member of the Oak Park Unified School District and subsequently served as the first President of the Oak Park USD. She served on the school board from 1977-91. In addition, she was a member of the Westlake Village Meals-On-Wheels board, Conejo Future Foundation Board of Trustees, Agoura Valley Women’s Club and the Community Foundation for Oak Park, to name a few.
In Pat’s retirement years she continued her active involvement in the community. She was a deacon at the Beaumont Presbyterian Church, enjoyed many outings with the Red Hat Club, and sang in performances by the Sun Lakes Choir. More than anything, Pat loved spending time with her family and annually visited Mammoth Lakes for summer family reunions. Pat will be remembered for her compassion, her dedication to making improvements, her positive and unselfish demeanor, and her wonderful sense of humor.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, CA. A celebration of Pat’s life was held at the Beaumont Presbyterian Church, 702 Euclid Ave, Beaumont, CA 92223 on January 6, 2016 at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Beaumont Presbyterian Church.
