
Peter Joseph Kevin Barrett died peacefully at home on July 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts on August 15, 1934, and was raised in Quincy, Massachusetts.
He was the son of Francis T. and Florence I. Barrett.
He graduated from North Quincy High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration in February 1957. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Officer Training Command in Newport, Rhode Island in 1957. He attended graduate studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving as a ‘Law Specialist’ (the processor to the Judge Advocate General’s Corps within the Department of the Navy) in San Francisco, California and Washington, DC. In 1961 he began a career in the restaurant business, first with Marriott and then for over 20 years with Howard Johnson, the largest restaurant chain in the world at the time. He rose to a Group Vice President in charge of 100s of restaurants in the Western states. He then operated his own hospitality executive search business, Barrett Hospitality Consultants. His work took him and his family throughout the U.S., including Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Connecticut and back and forth to California, where they eventually settled. He said it was an “adventure”.
He is survived by his wife Patricia M. Barrett of Banning, CA, his son Kevin Francis Barrett of Alameda, CA, his sister Mary E. Mullen of Norwell, MA, his sister-in-law Elizabeth A. Ross of Oxnard, CA, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his father Francis T. Barrett and his mother Florence I. Barrett (née Carney), and his two brothers whom he loved dearly, Francis M. Barrett and Arthur P. “Bud” Barrett.
He was a loving and supportive husband and father. He loved going on ocean cruises, and vacationing in the Caribbean, the Bahamas and in Laguna Beach with his wife Pat. He loved going out to restaurants. He loved walking and in later years going to brunch at Patsy’s Country Kitchen with his son Kevin, and in earlier years snow skiing with his son at Big Bear Mountain, where he taught his son to ski, and horseback riding in Mexico, Big Bear Lake and Palm Springs with his wife and son. He loved visiting his brothers Francis and Arthur and his sister Mary and their children on the South Shore of Boston, where they were raised, and visiting Cape Cod with them. He was a New England Patriots fan. He was a member of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Beaumont, California.
He loved life. He was greatly loved and is dearly missed.
He was interred with military honors and a Christian burial service with a Rite of Committal at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
