Ray was 77 years old and is survived by his wife, Pat Quinto (Canafranca); his children,
Marlene Sandoval, Christina Coronado, Ray Jr. Quinto, and their spouses; his seven
grandchildren and their spouses; his great granddaughter; and his sisters Loyola and Nickie. He
is predeceased by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Born on July 18, 1939 to Jose and Ursula Quinto in Taos, New Mexico, Ray was the fifth
generation of a family of sheepherders. His education is comprised of an Associate Degree in
Nuclear Medicine Technology from Community College of Denver, and a Masters Degree in
Public Administration with a hospital management emphasis from National University, San
Diego. On Christmas Day of 1960 in Mexico, he married Pat, the love of his life.
Ray’s accomplishments are nothing short of impressive. He oversaw numerous medical service
schools, served 10 years of active duty with two tours in Vietnam as a combat medic, twenty six
years in the Naval Reserve as Training, Executive and Commanding Officer, twenty six years as
Veterans Administration Department of Medicine and Surgery, and Chief of Research
Operations for 17 years at VA Medical Center in Loma Linda. He was an active board member
for various nonprofits such as American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and Kiwanis Club
of San Bernardino. His commitment to community service was recognized with the
Congressional Excalibur Award, (only 1 of 6 federal employees in America) and Citizen of the
Year by the League of Women Voters in San Bernardino.
Aside from his professional and community service success, his most prized accomplishment
was his family. Ray instilled the value of family to all who knew him. His selflessness and
compassion for others was inspiring to family, friends, and anyone who met him. Ray’s beautiful
soul will be cherished by his family and friends forever. His efforts to make the World a better
place will have a lasting impact on the communities he served.
A viewing will be held on March 15th from 4-7pm, with the rosary from 7-8pm at Weaver
Mortuary in Beaumont. Mass will be held on March 16th at 1oam at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini in
Yucaipa, and the burial will follow at 1:3opm at Riverside National Cemetery. Immediately
following the burial will be a Celebration of Life at Plantation on the Lake Recreation Hall in
Calimesa, CA. Ray would love nothing more than for his loved ones to gather in his honor.
