Christina Sawyers

Christina Ann Sawyers, age 62 of Cool Ridge, WV and formerly of Petersburg, WV passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family.

Christina was born on May 27, 1963 in Sistersville, WV, was the daughter of Douglas F. Horner and Nancy L. (Shobe) Horner of Petersburg, WV.

Christina was a 1981 graduate of Petersburg High School and a graduate of WV University as a Registered Nurse and RTR X-ray technologist. She was a Cardiac Nurse and was working for the Veterans Hospital as a Home Telehealth Nurse when she became ill and had to retire.

Christina is survived by her parents, Doug and Nancy Horner, her husband of 37 years, Gary Steven Sawyers, two sons, Patrick Douglas Sawyers and wife Kailea Sawyers and Jonathan Lee Sawyers. Her oldest son, Patrick Sawyers graduated from the DO Medical School in Lewisburg, WV and is now the Chief ER Resident at CAMC and will soon be starting a new ER fellowship. Jonathan Sawyers graduated with a Master Degree before starting Dental School in Knoxville, TN. He plans to start his own private practice. Christina was the Angel and Foundation of the Sawyers family, and the reason their sons made them so proud.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Shannon Earle officiating.

Christina’s family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Interment will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV.
