

Born on November 23rd, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ira Stover and Nora Craddock Stover.
Doris’ life was full of adventure and thrill. After graduating from Pax High School, she spent time serving in the U.S. Navy, worked as a school cook and later was the manager of Flowers Bakery store in Beckley.
In her free time, Doris was sure to take advantage of life, traveling just about anywhere she could. At home, she enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables, spending time with family, and was known as an awesome cook; who enjoyed a good hot dog and peach ice cream waffle cone. As a thrifty shopper, Doris was always looking for a bargain and would haggle over the price with anybody. She certainly had a zest and vigor or life.
Doris was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church, and a member of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, William Arthur; a daughter, Cathy Bennett; brothers, Dale Stover and Lee Stover; and sisters, June Forst and Louise Abshire.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Steve Arthur (Debbie) of Daniels; a daughter, Becky Oakley of Daniels; grandsons, Michael Oakley of Charleston, Ryan Arthur (Sacelia) of Shady Springs, and Matt Oakley of Charleston; granddaughters, Nikki Akers (Phil) of Daniels, and Beth Serdoz (Eric) of Flat Top; great-grandsons, Maverick Arthur and Maddox Arthur, both of Shady Springs, great-granddaughter, Skylar Akers of Daniels; godsons Todd Perry (Becky) and Ed Perry (Julia), both of Ansted, and several niece and nephews.
There will be a funeral service to celebrate the life of Doris on Thursday, September 12th, 2024 at 1PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor John Wittmann officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Doris will then be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.
Pallbearers include Michael Oakley, Ryan Arthur, Matt Oakley, Phil Akers, Eric Serdoz, and Jeffery Runyon.
Doris was the bedrock of our family and has kept us anchored securely during good times and hard times. She always gave unwavering support to us, even if she didn’t necessarily agree with us. She always encouraged us to do our best in all things. We are better because we were blessed to have her in our lives. She is our hero!
