

Freddie Ellis Simpson, age 90 of Sophia, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Born February 20, 1929, in Wyoming County, West Virginia, he is predeceased by his wife, Gency Simpson, and his parents Joseph and Fallie Simpson of Itmann, West Virginia.
Freddie was a coal miner by occupation, and loved every minute of it. He took pride in his work, and was dedicated. In fact, the only thing that surpassed his love of mining was his family. He and Gency were married for 66 wonderful years, which included being a devoted husband, doting father, beloved grandfather, and proud great-grandfather.
Freddie is survived by two children; Terry Simpson of Phoenix, Arizona and Tracy Marra and spouse Paul Marra, of Sophia, West Virginia; two grandchildren Danielle Simpson of St. Augustine, Florida, and Terry "Grant" Simpson, and his wife Gabriella, of Phoenix, Arizona; great-granddaughters Ellianna and Zoey of St. Augustine, Florida; and a new baby to come from Phoenix, Arizona; and brother and sister-in-law Karnis and Sue Halsey of Sophia, West Virginia.
Visitation and service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 11 am - 12 pm. Entombment will follow services at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Grace. Family and friends have the honor of serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Simpson.
